Chapter 9 - Getting Things Done

Zoey left shortly before 6:00 pm, as her parents were taking the family to Bamboo Sushi Bar And Grill for her special birthday dinner tonight, and she didn't want to miss out.  She asked if Kali would like to join them, but Kali said she was just too tired to go out, and as soon as Zoey left, she headed to bed for a super early night.

Kali had been in the middle of a really good dream where she had been visiting Nana here at the cottage for the summer.  They had been hunting for shells, wading in the surf, and having a fabulous time together.  She was just about to hug Nana when she jolted awake. A huge wave of sadness came over Kali the minute she realized that it had all been a dream....a perfectly wonderful dream, but a dream nonetheless.  Remembering that Harvestfest was tomorrow, and realizing that she didn't have any plans, only added to her sad feelings.  Maybe decorating the house would help elevate her mood?  She still had a few hours before school, so she might have time to finish up her school project and get some decorations up before she left.  So Kali switched on the radio to her favorite station, began rummaging in the boxes of decorations, and got started.

There were all kinds of decorations she could use, plastic pumpkins, leaf table runners and even a package of realistic looking fruits.  She added a set of pumpkins on the front porch, a smaller set right in front of Howard's fishbowl, and a leaf runner under the table lamp on the desk.  Then she carefully arranged the plastic grapes, apples, oranges and other fruits in a large bowl she found in one of the kitchen cupboards, and placed it on the counter.  There were strings of lights in various colors and craft paper cut into banners that she thought would look nice, so she set those aside and tucked everything else back in the boxes.

Kali was just finishing up the last of her homework when she noticed movement outside the window!  Getting up and peering out, she realized there there was one, now two, now three snowflakes!  Harvestfest was tomorrow and there were still a few days until it would be officially winter, but it was snowing!!!

Kali donned a pair of jeans, her boots and her pink, fuzzy cat hoodie, and raced outside!  She enjoyed the slight tickles as the snowflakes floated down and gently landed on her upturned hand.  She'd never been in Windenburg when it had snowed, and Kali couldn't wait until there was a nice thick blanket of snow covering everything!  Kali grabbed the strings of lights and the paper banners and set to decorating the outside of the cottage.  It wasn't the easiest thing, hanging lights with just one set of hands, but when all the lights and banners were hung, Kali was so proud of what she had done!

It was a good thing that Kali had taken the time to enjoy the first few snowflakes when she did, because shortly after she finished decorating outside, the temperature began to rise and those lovely white flakes turned to rain!

Kali went around to the back porch and brought her school project inside and placed it on the dining table so she could finish working on it without having to worry about the wind or the rain.  When she put the finishing touches on the bridge and stepped back to admire her work, she literally did a "happy dance!"
"I did it! I did it! Oh yeah, yeah, yeah!" Kali chanted.
She pulled a nightstand from her bedroom into the living room and carefully placed her finished project atop it.  Realizing that the Construct-A-Bridge would be too difficult to bring into class, her teacher had informed them that a snapshot sent to her e-mail box would be sufficient for credit, so Kali snapped a pic on her phone and sent it in.
