Chapter 13 - Trying New Things

The pair arrived in San Myshuno and were disappointed to see that it was raining, it was a good thing Kali had brought along her fuzzy pink cat hoodie or she might have opted to go back home before even getting out of the taxi.  They headed straight for the food vendors and browsed menus until they found one serving Pho, and they each bought a bowl.
"Would you like a fork or chopsticks to eat with?" The friendly food vendor asked.
""Ummm...well, I've never tried chopsticks before, but I think it might be fun to try.  I'll take a set!" Said Kali.
"I'd like some too," said Zoey." And they headed to the nearest picnic table with their steaming bowls.
It turned out that Kali did not have the finger dexterity that she was hoping she might have, and definitely had troubles using the chopsticks, the noodles just didn't want to stay put.  Kali felt a little better knowing that Zoey wasn't any better than she was, and Pho turned out to be quite good, even if it was a bit on the spicy side!

Automatic Interaction When Eating Certain Foods
She was almost finished with her bowl of Pho when she spied a familiar face, Peter Benoit, the bartender from that evening at the bowling alley.
"Hey Zoey, I'll be right back...I see someone I'd like to say hi to, Kali said apologetically.
"Oh yeah sure, who?!  Ooooooh!!" Said Zoey when she spied who was in Kali's eyesight.  "Hello eye candy!"
"Shhh...he might hear you....besides, he's older than I am....but yes...eye candy!" Kali said, nudging Zoey in the arm.
Picking up the almost empty bowl and her chopsticks, she made her way to where Peter was standing.
When she was next to him, Kali blurted out, "You've got to try the Pho!  I mean, if you want to...it's really good!"
Giving Kali a contemplative look, he said, "Yeah, okay, I guess I'll have a bowl of that," to the vendor.
Peter grabbed the bowl and a set of chopsticks turned to Kali and said, "Thanks kid, I gotta' get out of this rain, but thanks for the suggestion, it sure smells good!" As he hurried off.
"Well THAT was a really short conversation!" Chuckled Zoey.  "What did you say to him?"
"Yeah...about that...," Answered Kali. "It's not important, just forget that ever happened."
"That good?" Questioned Zoey.
"Ummm yeah...so much for that...whatever I was expecting THAT to be!" Kali said with a sigh, and went back to finishing her meal.

The temperature dropped rapidly, and it wasn't long before Zoey and Kali were ready to call it quits on the whole Spice Festival.  It would have been more fun if it had been a warm, clear day, but with the freezing temperatures and the persistent rain, it would be better to head indoors.  Kali suggested that they head across the street to the Streetside Karaoke bar, but Zoey said she would rather just go home, warm up and dry off, so she said goodbye to Kali and hailed a cab.  Kali wasn't quite ready to turn in for the night, so she dashed across the street and into the dry, inviting bar.
Sing Solo Option On The Karaoke Machine
She instantly felt warmer just standing inside the front entrance and the karaoke bar was all lit up with bright colors reminding Kali of summertime!   When she wandered up to the second floor, she found an empty karaoke machine, picked a song she more or less knew the words to, and gave it her best shot.  No, it wasn't a perfect performance by any means, but at least none of the bystanders boo'd her or covered their ears, so it must not have been THAT bad.  There were others waiting their turn on the machine, so Kali handed the microphone off and headed up to the bar to grab some chips.

*Voice over the loudspeaker*
"Ahoy Matey's!" Here be thee start of Talk Like A Pirrrate Day!  It's time to practice yer buccaneer lingo and speak like a proud pirate this day!  Enjoy a free Rootbeer Float, Juice On The Rocks or a Sea Of Fire and drink up me hearties!"
Thinking this was by far the silliest holiday she'd ever heard of, Kali giggled to herself.  Silly holiday or not, a free drink was a free drink, and since it was a Saturday, she wouldn't have to rush off to school or anything, so she had plenty of time to waste, so she headed to the nearest bar counter.

It was well after 2:00 pm by the time Kali decided to head back to the cottage and get some sleep.  She was starting to become quite the night owl, staying out late multiple nights in a row, but Kali was enjoying the freedom of making her own choices, even if they did mean sacrificing her energy...she hadn't crashed...yet!
