Chapter 5 - Getting Out

Kali woke up tense in the morning, she hadn't slept very well and was still dwelling on what the Romance Guru had told her the night before at The Romance Festival.  She had planned on just pouring a bowl of cereal for breakfast, but when she went to get the milk out, she realized that one of the packages of bacon had a small hole in the bag, it must have gotten snagged when she put it away yesterday.  Not wanting the bacon go bad before she "got to it," she read through the list of SIMply Fresh meals for something with bacon in it, and selected the Farmhouse Special (bacon, eggs and toast).  Cracking a couple of eggs in a large mixing bowl, adding the salt and pepper, Kali proceeded to take out her frustrations on the eggs, mixing them with a vengeance.  She'd been told once that "a messy cook is a good cook," and at least for the time being, she wasn't going to argue!  Thankfully the rest of the meal prep went off without a hitch and fifteen minutes later, Kali sat down to her first hot cooked meal!

Later in the afternoon, Kali started feeling a bit stir crazy in the cottage all alone and decided it would be nice to go out and get some fresh air.  The last time she had poked around the property, she hadn't really stepped from the yard surrounding the cottage, but there were rolling hills and sandy beaches that she could see from the porch, and she wanted see what was around.  Tying a flannel shirt around her waist, because it was partly cloudy and she didn't want to be caught unawares, Kali started off towards the sound of crashing waves.

The water sparkled when the sun peeked through the clouds, there were seagulls that could be heard overhead, and there was a salty scent in the air that got stronger the closer she got to the surf.  Kali found a small private dock just down a bit from the cottage, so she walked along the weathered boards, watching the sailboats go about their business.  All of a sudden, something caught her eye shimmering in the water, and she could have sworn she saw a fish jump, so she ran up to the cottage to snag Nana's old fishing rod, if she was lucky, maybe she would catch something!

*Tug...Tug...Tug*
If Kali hadn't been paying attention, she might not even have felt the slight vibrations on her line.  Giving a minute tug to set the hook, Kali began to bring in, whatever it was, on the end of her rod.  Whatever had been caught sure didn't put up much of a fight, and in just a few seconds, Kali had reeled in her very first catch!
0.10 kg Tetra - Worth $5.00
Since she hadn't thought to bring a box, bucket or any other container for anything she caught, she headed back to the cottage with the tiny fish still wiggling on the end of her line.  She rummaged in the kitchen cupboards until she found a glass container that would suffice as a makeshift fish tank for the little wiggler.  Kali carefully unhooked the tiny Tetra fish from her line and placed it in it's new home!  Even thought she knew she'd never really be able to do much more than just watch her new fish swim around in the bowl, Howard, as she had decided to call it, would hopefully help make the cottage feel a little less lonely.
