Chapter 7 - Making Friends

-Back At The Cottage-
Still buzzing with energy, Kali got washed up, and slipped into a set of dry pajamas.  By now it was late, and there would be school in the morning, but with all the excitement of earlier, there was no way she would be able to fall asleep anytime soon!  She mopped up the muddy tracks she had unfortunately trailed from the front door to the bathroom, washed her dishes from breakfast this morning, and checked on Howard.  As she watched him swim around lazily in his bowl, her thoughts wandered to Nana. Kali would have loved to see the look on Nana's face when she relayed her story about being struck by lightning in the park.  She hand't made any real friends yet, and she was sad that there would be nobody to tell her story to, even if they didn't believe her....except Howard.  She felt a little odd sitting there talking to a fish, but it was nice telling her story at least, fish or not!

Kali woke up just five minutes before her phone alarm would have beeped, signaling it was time to get up and get ready for school.  She bounded out of bed, pulled the covers up, in an attempt to make the bed, and all but skipped to the kitchen for a bowl of Nana's homemade applesauce.  By 8:00 am Kali was on her way to Buckingham High with a slight smile coming across her face.

For Kali, today had been another great school day!  During Simlish class they were broken up into small groups to talk about the book they were reading as a class, and Kali had been paired up with three girls, Zoey, Genesis her younger sister and Ayaka.  The four of them quickly got the necessary work out of the way and had the rest of the class period to sit back and socialize with each other.  And when the bell rang for lunch, they all hurried to the lunchroom together.  Kali was so happy to finally be making some friends, maybe they could all come over for a sleepover or something really soon!

A nasty note from the mail lady was waiting there, taped to the front door, when Kali arrived back at the cottage.  Apparently when they had stopped by, there was an issue with the mailbox, and somehow the mail lady hadn't been able to reach it, so she had just thrown all the mail in there and told Kali good luck on getting it back out!  Sadly there wasn't anything in the stack except utility bills, and of course they were all addressed to Nana.  Kali paid for everything online via her phone and made sure to ask them to change the name on the account to hers.  Then Kali remembered about the school project that she had brought home (Construct-A-Bridge) and decided to at least get started.  She wasn't sure how long it would take to get finished, and with just over a week of school left, she was on a bit of a time crunch!

Kali made a makeshift table together by flipping over a milk crate and placing a slab of wood on top.  She unpacked all of the supplies, one by one and set them on her makeshift table, then started trying to figure out how the pieces were meant to go, according to the directions.  This was definitely something that wasn't going to get done overnight, especially since Kali was determined to do a good job!
